My children, Luc & Anya, were not thrilled when they heard I'd signed them up for a camp about entrepreneurs and philanthropy. My son, Luc kept saying, "I can't believe you drafted me into this!" But by the end of the second day at JA BizCamp, they emerged from camp pleading, "Mom, when can we do this again?!" This is their first summer camp experience where they feel engaged, excited, and inspired. And no wonder. You and your enthusiastic staff have found wonderfully imaginative ways to address "grown-up" concerns such as taxes, insurance, and community service, and have hooked my kids completely on good citizenship.
Yesterday on the way home from camp, Luc announced, "Mom, I am only going to use a debit card when I grow up. Then you don't accumulate debt, which accrues interest. Interest is like a thief, isn't it?"
I love the positive effect your camp is having on my kids and the enthusiasm it has ignited in them, with its emphasis on building life-skills and enhancing their sense of competency. Thank you for creating this stimulating and fun environment that reminds children why we are here: to make the world better through inventive, responsible, and caring leadership.
